Destination guide · visited twice, September 2026

Mondello: Palermo with its shoes off.

An old fishing corner, Liberty villas and a beach promenade made for a slow stroll, gelato and dinner by the water.

Been there — twice. EVERYTHING ZEN anchored off Mondello on 10–11 September 2026 and again from 16 September before moving on to Palermo. The guide was researched on 10 September; opening hours are published listings, not same-day confirmations. No visitor tender berth or overnight anchoring permission is implied.

Captain Ron's Pick

Keep the first visit simple: agree a tender landing, wander the old village, stroll the beachfront to the famous bathing pavilion, then settle in for seafood or an aperitivo. This is seaside Palermo, not a separate far-flung resort.

Why It Looks Like This

Mondello grew from a fishing settlement into Palermo's fashionable seaside escape during the early 1900s. The surviving Liberty (Italian Art Nouveau) villas are a big part of its character; the municipal tourism office links several to architect Ernesto Basile.

The landmark Antico Stabilimento Balneare stands on pillars over the water. Often called the “ex Charleston”, it took that nickname from the restaurant housed there between 1968 and 2010. Don't confuse the historic building with the current Charleston restaurant.

Three Things to See

  • Old village and small harbour: start around Piazza Mondello for the working-waterfront feel and a coffee.
  • The sweeping beach: walk the promenade for views across the bay and its enclosing headlands.
  • Liberty architecture: the bathing pavilion is the obvious photograph; notice the villa facades along the seafront too. Most are private homes, so enjoy them from the street.

An Easy First Walk • Allow 1½–2 Hours With Stops

Suggested self-guided route, not a booked tour. Allow longer for a swim or meal; confirm the tender pickup point before splitting up.

Getting Ashore • Confirm Before Leaving the Tender

No dedicated unattended dinghy dock has been verified. Ask a local harbour operator or boat club where visiting tenders may land and stay, whether a fee applies, and when access closes. Do not assume a fishing berth, private pontoon or swimming beach is available.

This is a town guide, not anchoring clearance or a new weather forecast. Check the chart, swimming-zone markers and local instructions. Plan the return trip around the actual chop and light, not just the dinner reservation.

Food • Two Solid Options

Drinks • Cocktails • Gelato

Sirenetta • Aperitivo / Cocktails

Artisan gelato, brioche, sandwiches and bar service. Handy for a low-faff stop during the promenade walk.

Shop and restaurant hours are website listings, not a phone-confirmed guarantee for today.

If You Have More Time

Capo Gallo: a nature outing beyond the northern village. Check current land-path access, opening and any fees locally before setting off; lighthouse-path access is not confirmed.

Protected waters: check the official zoning and 2026 rules before taking the yacht or tender around the headland. A scenic cove is not automatically an authorised anchorage.

Palermo: save the city sights for a separate outing rather than rushing both places into one evening.

Captain's Evening Order

Boat settled → agreed tender landing → village and pavilion stroll → gelato or aperitivo → dinner → return before the tender ride becomes the evening's main event.
